The newspaper comic strip FoxTrot briefly mentioned Metal Gear Solid 4 in its December 13, 2009 strip. In it, Jason and Marcus are discussing what they should ask for Christmas, with Jason considering asking again for Metal Gear Solid 4. When asked by Marcus why he didn't get it the previous Christmas, Jason admitted that he didn't get it the previous Christmas because his father, Roger mistook his request as being for four solid metal gears with the implication that Jason received those for Christmas.[48]

A grenade with a thin, smooth cylindrical body is used as the model for both the "flashbang" stun grenades and the game's fictional electronic warfare "chaff" grenades. This appears to be based on a grenade-shaped gas bottle for Airsoft guns, such as the one shown below. Stun grenades can be found throughout the game or bought from Drebin, and stun all enemies within a fixed radius who can see them while also causing an instant alert if there wasn't one already. The Chaff Grenade is treated as a "secret" weapon; only a handful can be found during the entire game, usually in out-of-the-way places, and Drebin never sells them; they are basically a short-duration EMP-like effect rather flimsily explained as strips of metal which are spread throughout the entire current area via magic. Using one temporarily disables security cameras, alarms and enemy radios, and temporarily paralyses any drone vehicles present. This lasts until the magic fades and all the strips of metal return to wherever they came from in the first place. 2ff7e9595c
